Guess what? For all those who have so patiently waited and wondered how this was all going to happen - it finally did! On October the 19th 2009, 2000 pairs of shoes were sent on their way to Malawi!
There is very little we can say that will adequately express out gratitude to Edwin, Alison, Alison's mum and Paul of Marion Pack and Send for their extraordinary support! Over 30 freight companies/contacts were made and in the end it was Edwin who was the real 'CAN DO' man - and he is amazing!
With an anticipated 51 days transit time, the shoes should be with Virginia in early December. I spoke with Virginia, her niece Felista, Prayer and Victor the other day - well 0430 actually in Malawi - oops- but it was wonderful.

ReplyDeleteIt's been a long way and Suzy, Karen and all, you are just amazing. I met angels in Adelaide and they are in you.
I am so proud that we are going to make a difference in the lives of people especially that the arrival of shoes is coinsiding with the rain season. Children walk in mud going to school and this year, they will properly cover their feet avoiding water-borne diseases such as tinia (sp?) and other infections which is common during this season.
You guys dont know the impact this will bring on their health as well as improving their self-esteem. I am here and I believe you me, you have done a good job.
December is celebration month (Christmas) and parents are always cornered to buy gifts for children, this time around, it will be gifts for all! Amazing!
I am celebrating with the village for the Award, I hear the chief removed his jacked and waved it up in the air as an honour to the little boy, my uncle called just a few minutes ago.
Success after success. This is wonderful!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThey say "where their is will there is a way." Finally the shoes started off moving in the direction of Makuluni Village. Virginia, I can see that indeed December will be a twin celebration for Makuluni Village. If I were in Malawi I could have joined you in Mulanje to celebrate this. But poor me!!!!
